Bulk LEI Registration: How to Register and Manage Multiple LEIs

Bulk LEI registration is the process of registering multiple Legal Entity Identifiers in a single workflow, rather than submitting individual applications one at a time. With RapidLEI, organisations can register anywhere from 2 to thousands of LEIs using an Excel bulk upload or the RapidLEI API, with most LEIs issued on the same day.

This guide covers when bulk LEI registration is needed, how it works on the RapidLEI platform, and what options are available for ongoing LEI management at scale.

When Do You Need Bulk LEI Registration?

Organisations typically need bulk LEI registration when they are responsible for LEIs across multiple legal entities rather than just one. Common scenarios include:

Corporate groups with subsidiaries across jurisdictions. A parent company expanding into new markets may need LEIs for each subsidiary to meet local regulatory requirements. With entities incorporated in different countries, registering LEIs individually across separate issuers creates unnecessary complexity and increases the risk of LEIs lapsing without notice.

Law firms and corporate service providers acting on behalf of clients. Firms that manage compliance obligations for portfolios of client entities regularly need to register or transfer LEIs in volume. Bulk registration allows an agent to submit all applications in a single step, rather than repeating the process for each client entity.

Fund administrators and asset managers. Fund structures often involve multiple legal vehicles, each requiring its own LEI for regulatory reporting under MiFID II, AIFMD, and other frameworks. Registering LEIs for fund and sub-fund structures is significantly faster when handled through a bulk workflow. For more detail on fund-specific requirements, see LEIs for funds and trusts.

Banks onboarding corporate clients. Financial institutions increasingly use LEIs as part of KYB (Know Your Business) and client onboarding processes. When a bank identifies clients or counterparties that lack LEIs, bulk registration through a GLEIF Validation Agent arrangement or direct bulk upload can resolve the gap efficiently.

Post-merger or acquisition LEI consolidation. After an acquisition, an organisation may inherit LEIs spread across several issuers with inconsistent renewal dates and data quality. Bulk transfer and consolidation under a single LEI issuer reduces administrative overhead and lapse risk.

How to Register LEIs in Bulk with RapidLEI

RapidLEI supports two methods for bulk LEI registration, depending on the number of entities involved.

For fewer than 50 entities: LEI Shopping Cart

Log into your RapidLEI account and select New LEI(s). Search for each entity by name or registration number, add it to the cart, and submit all applications in a single transaction. RapidLEI automatically retrieves company data from official business registries, so in most cases the application form is pre-filled and you only need to confirm the details.

For 50 or more entities: Bulk Upload via EnterpriseLEI

For larger volumes, the bulk upload workflow with the EnterpriseLEI platform can be more efficient. EnterpriseLEI is RapidLEI’s platform for organisations that need to manage LEI lifecycles across corporate groups, client portfolios, or both.

  1. Create a RapidLEI account if you do not already have one. All LEIs will be managed under this account.
  2. Use the Excel template from the bulk upload section of the platform.
  3. Complete the template with entity details for each LEI application. Required fields include: legal name as registered, jurisdiction of incorporation, business registry identifier (e.g. Companies House number, Handelsregister number), and registered address. The template instructions are on Tab 2 of the Excel file.
  4. Upload the completed file to the RapidLEI platform. The system runs initial validation checks on each entity. Entities that pass validation are processed immediately. Any entities that fail initial checks are separated into a list with specific error indicators so you can correct and resubmit.
  5. Select the validity period for each LEI. Options include 1-year, 3-year, or 5-year plans. Multi-year plans auto-renew annually, reducing the risk of LEIs lapsing and lowering the per-year cost.
  6. Receive your LEI numbers. RapidLEI validates entity data against authoritative business registries. In most cases, LEIs are issued on the same day as submission. For entities requiring additional verification (such as funds, trusts, or entities in jurisdictions without publicly accessible registries), the process may take slightly longer.

The same bulk upload process is available for LEI transfers. If you are consolidating LEIs from other issuers, select the Import LEI(s) option and follow the same template-based workflow.

LEI Registration API

For organisations that need to embed LEI issuance into existing systems or workflows, RapidLEI provides a same-session LEI registration API.

The API allows you to programmatically register, renew, and manage LEIs without using the web platform. This is particularly relevant for banks and fintech platforms integrating LEI issuance into KYB onboarding workflows, corporate service providers building LEI registration into their client portals, and compliance platforms automating entity verification processes.

API documentation and integration support are available at RapidLEI Developers.

LEI Management at Scale with EnterpriseLEI

Bulk registration handles the initial issuance, but organisations with ongoing, large-volume LEI requirements benefit from a dedicated management platform. EnterpriseLEI extends the bulk registration capabilities with:

Centralised lifecycle management. A single dashboard for all LEIs across your group and client entities, covering registration, renewal, transfer, and lapse monitoring.

Level 2 hierarchy reporting. Tools designed for managing direct and ultimate parent entity relationships, including simplified Legal Entity Relationship Record (LE-RR) data entry and one-click LEI registration for parent organisations.

Internal and client LEI management. Manage LEIs for your own group companies and for external clients within the same account, under a single agreement.

Volume pricing. Enterprise plans offer discounted rates for bulk LEI registrations and renewals, including multi-year options. Pricing is structured to reduce the average per-LEI cost as portfolio size increases.

Dedicated account management. A named account manager coordinates transfers, prepares renewal batches, manages Letters of Authorization, and assists with Level 2 data preparation.

EnterpriseLEI is used by banks, corporate service providers, fund administrators, and compliance teams managing LEI portfolios at scale. Contact RapidLEI to discuss enterprise requirements, or explore the full EnterpriseLEI platform.

Bulk LEI Renewal

Every LEI must be renewed annually under GLEIF rules, regardless of which issuer manages it. For organisations managing LEIs in bulk, missed renewals are one of the most common and costly problems. A single lapsed LEI can block a trade, fail a regulatory report, or stall client onboarding. Using multi-year auto-renew will significantly reduce the risk of lapsed LEI numbers.

RapidLEI provides several safeguards against lapse risk for bulk LEI portfolios:

Dashboard visibility. Your RapidLEI account displays the status of every LEI in your portfolio, including upcoming renewal dates, LEIs at risk of lapsing, and any that have already lapsed. [VERIFY: confirm dashboard shows renewal risk indicators]

Automated renewal reminders. RapidLEI sends renewal notifications well in advance of each LEI’s anniversary date, giving your team time to act before a lapse occurs.

Multi-year auto-renewal. LEIs purchased on 3-year or 5-year plans are renewed automatically each year for the duration of the plan. This is the most effective way to eliminate lapse risk entirely for a bulk portfolio.

Bulk renewal processing. When renewal is due, you can select and renew multiple LEIs from your dashboard in a single step, individually or in bulk. The system checks for any business registry data changes and either renews automatically or flags entities that require updated information.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many LEIs can I register at once?

There is no upper limit. The shopping cart method supports up to 50 LEI applications per transaction. For larger volumes, use the Excel bulk upload or the API. Organisations regularly register hundreds of LEIs in a single batch through the bulk upload workflow.

Is there a discount for bulk LEI orders?

Yes. Multi-year plans (3-year and 5-year) reduce the per-year cost for every LEI. Organisations managing larger portfolios can access additional volume discounts through EnterpriseLEI. Contact RapidLEI for a volume pricing quote.

Can I transfer existing LEIs from other issuers in bulk?

Yes. The same bulk upload workflow supports LEI transfers. Select the Import LEI(s) option, enter the LEI codes you wish to transfer, and RapidLEI handles the transfer process within GLEIF’s standard transfer rules. There is no disruption to the LEI number or reference data during a transfer. See Transfer your LEI to RapidLEI for more detail.

How long does bulk LEI registration take?

Most bulk LEI registrations are completed on the same day. Entities registered on publicly accessible business registries are validated automatically, often within minutes. Entities requiring manual verification (such as funds, trusts, or entities in jurisdictions without accessible registries) may take slightly longer.

Can I register LEIs for entities in different countries in the same batch?

Yes. RapidLEI is accredited to issue LEIs in over 150 jurisdictions worldwide. You can include entities from multiple countries in a single bulk upload. The platform validates each entity against the relevant national business registry.

What if only some entities in my bulk upload pass validation?

Entities that pass initial validation checks are processed immediately. Entities that fail are separated into a dedicated list with error indicators explaining the issue. You can correct the data and resubmit those entities without affecting the rest of the batch.

Do I need a separate account for each entity?

No. All LEIs registered through a bulk upload are managed under a single RapidLEI account. EnterpriseLEI also supports multiple sub-accounts under one master agreement for organisations that need to separate group and client LEI management.
